“OH CANADA”
The idea to create this page came from hearing countless heartfelt stories about the steel Canadian Flags I’ve designed and created — and how they’ve touched the lives of so many people across the country. I wanted to bring those stories together, connect the people behind them, and give everyone a place to share their own personal experiences tied to these handcrafted Canadian Flag sculptures.
In 2013, I created my very first Canadian Flag art piece, not realizing it would become such a defining part of my artistic journey. Since then, these metal Canadian Flags have soared in popularity, with one-of-a-kind versions sold and displayed across Canada and throughout North America. Each flag is hand-cut, welded, and finished in my Norfolk County studio, combining artistry and precision metal fabrication. Every burn mark, colour tone, and texture tells its own story — no two flags are ever the same.
One of my proudest moments was being invited to craft flags for the Poppy Memorial Outreach Program, a non-profit that supports the families of fallen soldiers. Through this collaboration, my custom Canadian Flags have reached places I could have never imagined — museums, fire halls, veterans’ memorials, and even the Prime Minister’s Office. Knowing that these pieces represent honour, sacrifice, and unity fills me with immense pride.
For me, these Flags of Steel symbolize the strength, resilience, and beauty of our incredible country. They are more than metal — they are a tribute to Canadian spirit. With the support of so many people, the “Oh Canada” series has taken on a life of its own, and I’m honoured to see how each piece continues to inspire connection and national pride.

Flags come in two materials, mild steel & stainless steel. Mild steel is ideal for interior or protected areas outside (under covered porch). Stainless steel is great for all year round protection.

While the Canadian Flag sculptures have become my signature work, I’ve also created custom metal flag art for clients around the world. One of my most memorable commissions was a handcrafted American Flag — a piece that challenged me to capture the same depth of symbolism and pride using a completely different visual language. Each stripe was individually welded and heat-coloured to produce rich variations of red and blue tones, with the stars cut and raised for a sculptural effect.
These international projects remind me that, no matter the flag, the emotions behind them are universal — pride, history, sacrifice, and identity. Whether it’s a Canadian, American, or custom-designed flag, every sculpture is built to honour what it represents. Working with clients from different countries has allowed me to explore new techniques, materials, and finishes while staying true to the craftsmanship that defines Iron Oak Designs.
I’ve also created custom flag displays for corporate offices, veterans’ organizations, and memorial installations, each designed to withstand the test of time while making a bold visual statement. The process of bringing these flags to life — from design to fabrication — continues to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my work as a metal artist.
